Get Paid to Test Apps/Websites - UserTesting [Medium to High Effort]
Anywhere from $10 to $60 / hour with this SSH.
How it works:
UserTesting.com is more or less what it sounds like. You, the User, can test out apps or websites for companies and they pay you for your time. There’s three types of payouts I’ve seen, $10 for at most 15 minutes, $30 for 30 minutes, and $60 for 60 minutes. This isn’t a very consistent source however if you have nothing to do for an hour or more it can be.
Requirements:
UserTesting.com Tester account - create account
PayPal account - create account
A Mic for computers. If you have a smartphone the built-in mic is enough.
Some screen recording software UserTesting will have you download.
A pretty quiet place. If your recording picks up too much ambient noise they may not pay you.
Nice to have:
An hour or more of free time.
Apple and PC/Android Devices. They may have tests just for iPhones, Android, PC, or Mac so to be eligible for all tests have them all.
A very quiet place.
Steps:
Create PayPal account.
Create UserTesting.com account and go through their test, link your PayPal as well. There’s additional app downloads if you’re using your phone.
Download any additional software that may be required to record your screen.
Start looking through tests you want to do. Take the screener questions until you are eligible to review an app or website.
Review the app or website.
Profit. (After several days, takes time for the money to show up in your PayPal)
Story so far:
12/8/2020: I’ve gotten $90 so far from only $10 tests, a few on my phone a few on a computer. To break this down more, I did about 5 tests in the span of 2 weeks when I was in between jobs June of 2019. I then did 4 tests right after COVID shutdowns (March 2020) because I had more time on my hands. Using this is definitely a high effort side hustle. I’ve sat around for two hours taking screeners and not qualify for a single test, that’s $0 / hour or even negative if you include my electricity cost. However there are times when you may get lucky and have back to back tests. I haven’t been accepted to the $30 or $60 payouts however my understanding is it will be a live conversation so that’s high effort as well. The reason I give this a possible medium effort is because one of those June tests I took was at an airport. I don’t know what it is but when you have an hour to board and you just made $10 by reviewing and playing a game, it doesn’t feel like that much effort. If you get a test it’s not too bad either, they ask for 15 minutes however I’ve definitely seem shorter tests and finished before 10 minutes which still got me the $10, that’s $60 / hour if you’re keeping track AND I was waiting for my flight! Talk about a convenient side hustle. All in all if you’re doing this a home, put time aside. If you’re waiting around somewhere (and it can’t be loud or else it can’t record your audio) then it can be a rewarding hustle to pass the time.
